Portal Maya

This iconic sculpture was created by Arturo Tavares Padilla. The Maya Portal is a 16 m high, 60 ton bronze structure. It was placed in the Parque Fundadores on December 21, 2012, when several people believed it would be the end of the Maya civilization. of the world; however, it represents the end of a cycle and the beginning of another that will last 5,125 years.

The Ceiba Sacred Tree

Its original name is Yaaxché. It is a tree 20 to 40 meters high, although there are some records of ceibas that have reached up to 70 meters and have an average lifespan of 60 years.

Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

This small church is located on Avenida Juárez and 5a. Avenida, next to Parque Fundadores. It was built in 1960. A group of locals took on the task of finding a place where they could worship the Virgin of Carmen, patron saint of fishermen.

Bull shark

The bull shark has been called this way, due to the literal translation of the English “bull shark”; although in reality, the correct name is sada shark. However, the term has become very popular, so in several places it is called this way.
